Daar gaan we vier keer op een game drive oftewel safari. Eerst nog even winkelen en pinnen in Hoedspruit. Daarna tien kilometer de grote weg op en dan een afslag naar het park. Vooraan een slagboom waar we ons moeten inschrijven en entree voor het park moeten betalen. Dan  7 kilometer over een dirtroad naar de lodge. Onderweg zien we olifanten! Zomaar, 50 meter naast de weg. Wij vinden het nu al geweldig, niet wetende dat we ze later op een paar meter afstand zullen zien. De ontvangst is zeer gastvrij. We krijgen een mooie rondeel en moeten om 14.00 uur aantreden voor de lunch, waarna onze eerste drive om 16.00 uur begint. Daarvoor moeten we opgeven wat we onderweg vlak voor zonsondergang willen drinken. Lekker luxe allemaal. De lunch op het gazon onder een grote boom is heerlijk. Daarna even relaxen en dan aantreden voor onze eerste drive. We zitten samen met een Franse familie van zes personen, opa, oma, zoon, schoondochter en 2 kleinkinderen in de auto. Hamilton is onze chauffeur en doctor is onze hunter. Hij zit op een stoeltje op de motorkap. En dan gaat het los. Ongelofelijk hoeveel dieren we onderweg zien en hoe dichtbij we komen. De jeep blijft niet op de paden, maar crosst als het moet zo tussen de bomen en struiken door.
