We zijn precies op tijd, want vanaf de volgende dag, 1 april, is het park verboden voor campers. We komen onderweg een ranger tegen die ons aangeeft dat we niet mogen parkeren op het strand. Hij bedoelt waarschijnlijk kamperen. Dat waren we ook niet van plan. De kust is prachtig. Mooi zandstrand omzoomd door pijnboombossen. Er is veel informatie over bloemen, planten en dieren die hier leven. Er worden ook andere dieren gehouden, grote grazers en wilde paarden, je mag dat gebied niet in, maar het beeld is prachtig. Als we op het schiereiland van Porto Ercole stoppen in het haventje van Porto Santo Stefano, komt het met bakken naar beneden. Toch maken we een wandeling door de haven. Daarna naar Porto Ercole, waar Prins Bernard ooit de villa \u2018de gelukkige olifant\u2019 liet bouwen. Er is niet veel aan, grote huizen op een grote berg. Het huis van de Oranjes is er sowieso niet meer, is met de grond gelijk gemaakt. Vlakbij is een camperplekje, maar we kunnen er vanwege hoogtebeperkingen niet komen. In Itali\u00eb heb je of een spoortunnel of een spoorbrug. Vooral de laatste is het makkelijkste omdat wij met onze hoogte van 3.25 m door de tunnel er niet onderdoor kunnen. Anne wil dan altijd even kijken of het misschien, net wel lukt. Gelukkig heeft Netty een redelijk timmersmansoog en deze keer, helaas, rechtsomkeerd hier kunnen we niet onderdoor. We rijden door naar een parkeerterrein bij zee, bij een klein cafeetje wat al gesloten is. Gelukkig reden we niet al te hard naar beneden. Een grote plantenbak laat ons stoppen. Gelukkig maar, anders waren we zo het strand op gereden en hoe we er dan uit waren gekomen?
